Politicians are known for doing pretty much anything for fundraising, but a Democratic candidate vying for a pivotal position in the Virginia House of Delegates may take the cake. Susanna Gibson was caught streaming sexual acts with her husband, encouraging viewers to give “tips” in exchange for fulfilling particular requests.
I guess you can say she was willing to take one for the team.
Gibson, a nurse practitioner and mother of two young children running in a highly competitive suburban Richmond district, streamed sex acts on Chaturbate, a platform that says it takes its name from “the act of masturbating while chatting online,” writes The Washington Post.
While still listed on Recurbate, those videos were no longer available for viewing as of Saturday, after a Republican operative alerted The Washington Post about them. But the videos remained live on another non-password-protected site, which The Post viewed. At least two other publicly available sites displayed explicit still photos from the videos, The Post confirmed.
Gibson, 40, can be seen in the videos soliciting “tips” for performing specific acts — in apparent violation of Chaturbate’s terms and conditions, which say: “Requesting or demanding specific acts for tips may result in a ban from the Platform for all parties involved.”
In multiple videos, Gibson interrupts sex acts to type into a bedside computer. Speaking directly into the screen, she urges viewers to provide tips, which are paid through “tokens” purchased through the site. In at least two videos, she agrees to perform certain acts only in a “private room,” an arrangement that requires the viewer to pay more.
According to the newspaper, in two videos, she told the crowd of voyeurs watching online that was was “raising money for a good cause.”
In a statement, the Democrat showed utter shamelessness. Gibson, who, just to reiterate, was caught streaming pornography of herself online for money, denounced the report as a form of “gutter politics” and “an illegal invasion of my privacy designed to humiliate me and my family.”
“It won’t intimidate me and it won’t silence me,” Gibson said according to The Guardian. “My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up.”
A lawyer representing Gibson, Daniel P. Watkins announced that they are “working closely with state and federal law enforcement.” Working to do what exactly? That was left to the imagination.
Gibson has said she plans to stay in the race.
“It won’t intimidate me and it won’t silence me,” The New York Times reported. “My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up.”
The seat Gibson is running for is one of the most hotly contested in the state. In the previous legislative session, Republicans held a narrow majority in the chamber, while Democrats maintained a slim edge in the state senate. The district chose Youngkin by a 51.2 percent to 48.3 percent margin in 2021, but in the 2022 congressional midterm elections, the split in the district was 50 percent Democratic to 49.1 percent GOP.
With Virginia’s Republican Governor, Glenn Youngkin, directing significant resources toward his party’s bid for complete control of the state legislature in the upcoming November elections, a successful outcome for Republicans would pave the way for Youngkin to advance his legislative agenda, which includes a proposed 15-week abortion ban, with little obstruction.
Governor Youngkin recently granted an absolute pardon to Scott Smith, the Loudoun County father who was wrongfully prosecuted and convicted for standing up for his daughter at a 2021 Loudoun County School Board. She had previously been sexually assaulted at school by a transgender woman using the girl’s locker room.
Leaders of the schoolboard were later indicted for their covering up of the crime.
“Scott Smith is a dedicated parent who’s faced unwarranted charges in his pursuit to protect his daughter. Scott’s commitment to his child despite the immense obstacles is emblematic of the parental empowerment movement that started in Virginia,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “In Virginia, parents matter and my resolve to empower parents is unwavering. A parent’s fundamental right to be involved in their child’s education, upbringing, and care should never be undermined by bureaucracy, school divisions or the state. I am pleased to grant Scott Smith this pardon and help him and his family put this injustice behind them once and for all.”
Tough choice, Virginia.
