Mexico has announced that it will offer escorted bus rides from southern parts of the country to the U.S. border for non-Mexican migrants who have secured a United States asylum appointment. The National Immigration Institute revealed on Saturday that these buses will depart from the southern cities of Villahermosa and Tapachula.
This initiative appears to be an effort to make the process of applying for asylum appointments more appealing from southern Mexico, discouraging migrants from heading further north to Mexico City or directly to the border, according to The Associated Press.
The announcement came a week after the U.S. government expanded access to the CBP One application to southern Mexico. Access to the app, which allows asylum seekers to register and await an appointment, had previously been restricted to central and northern Mexico.
The Mexican government wants more migrants to wait in southern Mexico farther from the U.S. border. Migrants typically complain there is little work available in southern Mexico for a wait that can last months. Many carry debts for their trip and feel pressure to work.
Previously, Mexican authorities said they would respect migrants who showed that they had a scheduled asylum appointment at the border, but some migrants reported being swept up at checkpoints and shipped back south, forced to miss their appointments.
Local, state and federal law enforcement will provide security for the buses and meals will be provided during transit, the institute said.
Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz alleged that Vice President Kamala Harris is collaborating with Mexico’s president to promote the influx of illegal immigrants into the U.S., with the aim of pushing the country further to the left politically.
“Kamala Harris wants more illegal immigrants in America,” Cruz said in his podcast “Verdict” on Monday, according to Fox News. “Just about every single congressional Democrat in the Senate and the House, they want more illegal immigrants in America. They are actively encouraging, facilitating and accelerating the invasion at our southern border.”
“So now the government of Mexico is actively aiding and assisting the human traffickers,” he continued. “They will provide bus rides throughout Mexico, along with armed escorts from police and soldiers to bring illegal immigrants to the border to invade this country. And they’re doing this because Kamala Harris wants them to do this.
AMLO, the president of Mexico, wants as much illegal immigration as possible to go into America, and Kamala Harris wants as much illegal immigration as possible to go into America,” Cruz said. “Both for the same reason, which is to fundamentally shift the policies of the United States of America and to move them dramatically to the left.”
The announcement by Mexico to start busing illegal immigrants to the United States, Cruz explained, came one week after the U.S. “expanded access to the CBP One application to southern Mexico.” Previously, only allowing migrants in central and northern Mexico could apply for asylum using that system.
Under Joe Biden, tens of millions of illegal immigrants have come to the United States, and in many places, including Manhattan in New York City, where liberal sanctuary city laws have become the norm, police have been unable to fight skyrocketing crime as a result, noted The New York Post.
“Across New York, recently arrived migrants are flooding the criminal justice system — at far higher rates than public officials have acknowledged.
Police sources shared with The Post a staggering estimate that as many as 75% of the people they’ve been arresting in Midtown Manhattan in recent months for crimes like assault, robbery and domestic violence are migrants. In parts of Queens, the figure is more than 60%, sources there estimate.
On any given day, Big Apple criminal court dockets are packed with asylum seekers who have run afoul of the law.
The problem is made much worse by sanctuary city laws that mean New York cops aren’t allowed to work with ICE on cases in which they believe suspects are in the country illegally. Additionally, the NYPD says it is barred from tracking the immigration status of offenders.”
“New York City eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals. What a mess,” Jim Quinn, a former prosecutor in New York City, told The Post. “The sanctuary city law is pathetic. It’s disgusting. It’s crazy.”
Kamala Harris has said that she intends to fight for a pathway for citizenship as a top priority of her administration if she wins in November.
