Hollywood veteran Kelsey Grammer says a future run for public office remains a real possibility, revealing that he continues to wrestle with the idea as a way to serve his country.
In an interview with Us Weekly, the former “Frasier” and “Cheers” star said he has long considered entering politics and suggested that such a move could fulfill a sense of duty he feels has remained unfinished.
“It would possibly tick that box for me, in terms of the service I feel I should have given to my fellow man — to my fellow countrymen — that I missed in the military,” Grammer told the outlet. “Maybe that would be the way to do it. I have wrestled with it.”
The 71-year-old actor indicated that while a campaign may not happen immediately, it is something he continues to seriously consider. Grammer said he may wait until his youngest children are older before seeking office, though he made clear that he does not view his age as an obstacle.
“I’m vital and prepared to stay that way for quite a while, and yes, it’s likely I will at least throw my hat in the ring in some way,” he said.
The comments are not the first time Grammer has discussed a possible political future. More than two decades ago, during a 2003 appearance with Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes, the actor said he could envision entering politics later in life and even suggested he might one day serve as a senator.
Grammer has also been an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump. In a 2025 interview with Fox News, he described Trump as “maybe the greatest” president.
The actor was at the White House on Thursday, where he met with President Trump in the Oval Office while promoting his new film, “Young Washington.” According to sources for Deadline, the meeting included discussions about politics, their families and the movie.
Following the meeting, Grammer spoke briefly with a reporter for Scripps about Trump’s efforts toward bipartisanship. He said he believes the president embraces what he described as the American political tradition of vigorous disagreement eventually leading to compromise.
Grammer said Trump “celebrates … the American experiment, which is honestly a story of two sides bashing heads all the time and finally coming out with some kind of middle ground that works for everybody.”
Reflecting on the Oval Office visit, the actor offered a warm assessment of his conversation with the president.
“It was fantastic today,” Grammer said. “Just effervescent. Fun. We traded some old war stories about our lives, our personal lives, our wives and our families. It was really nice to see him.”
While Grammer stopped short of announcing any formal political plans, his latest comments suggest the possibility of a future campaign remains on his mind. For now, the longtime actor says public service is still something he continues to contemplate as he looks ahead to the next chapter of his career.
