President Donald Trump announced Sunday that his new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, will hold her first press conference on Tuesday.
The president made the announcement in a Sunday evening post on Truth Social, praising Zacharia and laying out the timeline for her debut behind the podium.
“I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Press Briefing Room in the White House. Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!” Trump wrote.
Trump recently tapped Zacharia, a conservative commentator and former Trump Media communications adviser, to serve as the next White House press secretary.
The president touted her track record in a separate Truth Social post on Friday, pointing to her work on his campaigns in the battleground states.
“She was previously involved in my Campaigns, assisting in key Swing States, where we won 7 out of 7. She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning,” the president said.
The New York Times was the first to report on Zacharia’s selection for the role.
Zacharia brings a background in government and media communications to the job. She previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, and she also worked as a top communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social.
She will be stepping into a role vacated by Trump ally Karoline Leavitt, who left the administration earlier this year following the birth of her second child. Leavitt has since taken a job as a Fox News commentator.
With her appointment, the former DHS spokesperson becomes the second press secretary of Trump’s second term. She also becomes the sixth consecutive woman to hold the position.
Zacharia has already signaled what she sees as her mission in the new role. In a prior post on the social media platform X, she said her focus will be on promoting the administration’s accomplishments.
“The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” Zacharia said.
Her first press conference is set to take place Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the White House Press Briefing Room, marking her official introduction to the press corps after beginning her term on Columbus Day.
The president’s announcement makes clear he has full confidence in his pick. In his posts, Trump repeatedly emphasized Zacharia’s loyalty and longstanding support, describing her as someone who has been with him “from the very beginning.”
Her experience spans the campaign trail, where she assisted in key swing states, as well as her communications work at both DHS and Trump Media. That combination of political and messaging experience now puts her at the front of the White House’s effort to communicate the administration’s agenda to the American people.
Zacharia takes over the high-profile podium as the administration continues its second term, with the president expressing confidence that she will do a fantastic job in the role.
