Growing Calls For Kamala Harris To Step Down

With Joe Biden wrapping up the nomination earlier in the month, Democrats have found themselves in quite a conundrum, especially as the president keeps having “senior moments” on the campaign trail.

The New York Times recently reported that “widespread concerns about President Biden’s age pose a deepening threat to his re-election bid, with a majority of voters who supported him in 2020 now saying he is too old to lead the country effectively, according to a new poll by The New York Times and Siena College.

The survey pointed to a fundamental shift in how voters who backed Mr. Biden four years ago have come to see him. A striking 61 percent said they thought he was “just too old” to be an effective president.

A sizable share was even more worried: Nineteen percent of those who voted for Mr. Biden in 2020, and 13 percent of those who said they would back him in November, said the 81-year-old president’s age was such a problem that he was no longer capable of handling the job.”

With it clear that Biden refuses to step down, liberals have now moved into the bargaining phase of their grief, which isn’t good news for Kamala Harris.

Washington Post writer Kathleen Parker has revealed what some Democrats are hoping for: Kamala Harris quitting for the sake of her country.

[Biden’s] “history-making” selection of the telegenic Kamala D. Harris might prove to be his downfall in 2024 — and he has had enough fall-downs to make voters worry. Harris’s résumé was impressive. A former California attorney general and sitting U.S. senator, she seemed to have been created by Central Casting. Or was it artificial intelligence? As the first Black woman and the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for vice president, she was a doubleheader.

But her evolving beliefs undercut that appeal. As a presidential candidate in 2020, she followed the Democratic playbook on issues, except when she raised her hand in support of eliminating private health insurance. She also managed to imply that Biden was racist and segregationist, citing his long-ago stance against student busing. In her famous debate rebuke of Biden, she said she had been one of the little Black girls on one of those buses.

Whatever the reasons, it has seemed that Harris’s role was to be quiet, lest she embarrass her boss with her sometimes inane, rambling remarks and a laugh that erupts from nowhere about nothing obvious to others. I do, however, relish the thought of her face-to-face with Vladimir Putin and suddenly cackling at a linchpin moment during nuclear arms discussions.

The Kamala conundrum comes down to this: She was picked because she was Black and female, a combo tantamount to job security. Now that she has become a burden to the Democratic ticket, Biden can’t fire her. He can’t risk alienating his base. Full stop. The seriousness of this situation can’t be overstated. Biden’s diminishing faculties, notwithstanding his relatively successful State of the Union address, and his increasing physical frailty are concerning.

This isn’t the first time that prominent Democrats have thrown out the idea of dropping Harris for someone the country does not strongly dislike. Last June, former Deputy Solicitor General Philip Allen Lacovara even threw out the idea of appointing Barack Obama vice president

“I think that Obama has been wrongly excluded from discussion about the 2024 race because it is simply assumed that he is constitutionally barred from running as a candidate on the national ticket. That is a mistake. As I will explain, the Constitution permits this kind of gambit — and, despite the apparent unlikelihood of it happening, both Biden and Obama owe it to the country to consider using it.

Biden continues to sink in the polls, with a recent Washington Post/ABC poll showing him actually behind Donald Trump, something considered almost unthinkable even before Trump’s indictment in New York three months ago. Biden has two crucial but connected problems — his age and his vice president. Harris’s unpopularity compounds voters’ concerns about Biden’s stamina and even his survival through a new term.

Since Biden shows no sign of willingness to step aside himself, both his low approval ratings and the danger to the country from Trump’s potential return to the White House make it imperative that Biden select a running mate who best enhances his chances for reelection. Obama is the only person who could practically guarantee Biden’s reelection, whose qualifications cannot be disputed, and who could replace Harris without alienating a major constituency.”

Harris knows she’s being watched by her fellow Democrats and has recently made moves to help secure her base, even if it is at the expense of Biden’s general election chances. Last week, the vice president became the first president or vice president to visit a Minnesota abortion clinic, revealing that the days of “legal, safe, and rare” are over.

Of course, like almost everything else she does, her visit didn’t go off without a hitch.

She welcomed the crowd at the clinic by bizarrely saying, “Everyone get ready for the language,” Harris, the nation’s first female vice president warned.

“Uterus.”

A recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll revealed that 52 percent of registered voters disapprove of Harris, while only 36 percent approve.

Harris’ numbers are worse than those of President Biden and former President Donald Trump, the two most unpopular candidates ever to run for president against each other.
