In a shocking exclusive, The New York Post reports that Democratic leaders told Joe Biden that they would deploy the 25th Amendment against the president if he did not renounce his intention to run for reelection.
Operatives at the very highest levels of the Democratic Party threatened President Biden with forcibly removing him from office unless he stepped down, sources told The Post.
The well-orchestrated ‘palace coup’ to stop the faltering president from seeking re-election had been in place for weeks, but stubborn Biden fought it every step of the way, a source close to the Biden family told The Post on Monday.
As calls for him to bow out mounted, Biden insisted he would continue, but party bigwigs threatened to invoke the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution.
The amendment allows for the vice president and members of the cabinet to declare the president is unfit to serve and force him to step down, the source added.”
Although most megadonors got their wish and pushed poor Joe aside, not every liberal billionaire is happy.
The Hill reports that one Democratic donor is not happy with Harris walking into the nomination and thinks it will lead to disaster for the party.
Prominent Democratic donor John Morgan said he will not fundraise for Vice President Harris, whom President Biden endorsed for the Democratic nomination after his withdrawal from the race.
“You have to be enthusiastic or hoping for a political appointment to be asking friends for money. I am neither. It’s others turn now,” Morgan, an Orlando-based attorney, wrote on the social platform X.
“The donors holding the 90 million can release those funds in the morning. It’s all yours. You can keep my million. And good luck,” he continued.
Morgan separately told The Hill he believes Harris will lose in November.
“She would not be my first choice,” Morgan said. “But it’s a done deal.”
The New York Post spoke to other liberal megadonors and they said they think Harris is the perfect fall guy. Let her lose in 2024 and begin preparing for 2028 when a group of young Democrats will likely all reach for the brass ring.
“Big money donors have quietly advised promising candidates — who they view as the future of the party — including Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to hold their powder and let Harris clinch the democratic nomination.
Sources told The Post it is “impossible” for anyone besides Harris to get the nomination given the decision has to be made in mere weeks. These people add that it would be “suicide” to try and mount a challenge at this point since President Biden has anointed Harris as his successor.
One deep-pocketed donor told The Post he does not believe any Democrat can win in 2024 — and that it makes sense for Harris to take the fall on some of Biden’s most unpopular positions like immigration. The source dismissed the idea that Harris would push Democrats to victory, ‘It’s the same ticket … it’s over for both of them [Biden and Harris].’
The person added that he and other donors will lay low the rest of 2024 and instead focus on supporting candidates they believe can win in 2028.”
They may not be wrong and Democrats may be soon regretting their decision to toss the sitting president to the curb. A recent poll from Marist College, which has tended to skew for the Democrats—the last one had Biden winning by two percent—showed Harris trailing Trump but one percent.
“In the aftermath of President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are competitive among the national electorate. In a multicandidate field which includes Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, Jill Stein, and Chase Oliver, Trump and Harris tie. Democrats have fallen in line behind Harris with more than three in four saying Harris should be their party’s nominee. There is less consensus as to who the Democratic candidate for Vice President should be. As for Biden, most Americans agree with the president’s decision to step aside, and a plurality thinks Biden’s exit will bolster the Democrats’ chances of winning.
Among registered voters nationally head-to-head, Trump receives 46% to 45% for Harris. Nine percent are undecided. Independents break 46% for Trump to 32% for Harris. 21% of independents are undecided.
In a multicandidate field, Harris (42%) and Trump (42%) tie among the national electorate. Kennedy receives 7%. Support for West (1%) and Stein (1%) is in low single digits. Less than 1% support Oliver.”
