Trump Backs Michael Alfonso in Wisconsin GOP Primary to Replace Tom Tiffany

President Donald Trump weighed into a key Wisconsin House race Tuesday, endorsing Michael Alfonso in the Republican primary to succeed Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is running for governor.

Trump announced his support on Truth Social, highlighting Alfonso’s family ties and alignment with the MAGA movement. In his post, Trump praised Alfonso as the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Fox News contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy, emphasizing the family’s long-standing support for his agenda.

“Michael is the son-in-law of our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, and the wonderful Rachel Campos-Duffy, of FoxNews, one of the most popular (and talented!) anchors in all of Television,” Trump wrote. “His family has been fierce advocates for our Movement to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump went on to describe Alfonso as a “MAGA Warrior” and a “young ‘STAR,’” signaling that the president sees him as part of the next generation of Republican leadership.

Alfonso, who is married to the Duffys’ daughter Evita, responded quickly to the endorsement, calling it the “greatest honor” of his political career. In a statement posted on X, Alfonso pledged loyalty to Trump and the movement that helped propel Republicans to victory in conservative districts like Wisconsin’s 7th.

“He is truly the greatest president of all time, and I pledge to be a steadfast MAGA warrior for the people of Wisconsin’s 7th District,” Alfonso said.

According to his campaign website, Alfonso brings experience from the construction and concrete industry and later worked as a producer for “The Dan Bongino Show.” He is one of several Republicans seeking the nomination to replace Tiffany in northwest Wisconsin.

Tiffany’s decision to run for governor opened the seat, and he also received Trump’s endorsement Tuesday, further underscoring the president’s influence in Wisconsin Republican politics. Before Tiffany held the seat, it was represented by Sean Duffy, who later joined Fox Business as a co-host of “The Bottom Line” before returning to government as Transportation Secretary.

The Republican primary field includes Jessi Ebben, who works for a Wisconsin-based manufacturing company; Kevin Hermening, a private wealth advisor and former U.S. hostage in Iran; and businessman and corporate lawyer Paul Wassgren.

On the Democratic side, attorney Ginger Murray, former state Rep. Fred Clark, and small business owner Chris Armstrong are competing for the nomination.

The political landscape strongly favors Republicans in the district. Wisconsin’s 7th District backed Trump by more than 22 points in November, according to The Downballot, making the winner of the GOP primary the heavy favorite to prevail in the general election.

With Trump’s endorsement, Alfonso enters the race with a significant boost in a crowded Republican field. The backing not only highlights his personal connections to prominent conservative figures but also places him squarely in the president’s political orbit as Republicans look to hold the seat and expand their influence in Wisconsin.
